Daniel A. Stanton was born on April 11, 1888 in Taunton and died in Taunton on January 1, 1949. He was appointed to the department on circa 1916 and retired on November 26, 1946. January 14, 1919 and promoted to Captain on February 23, 1943. He retired on July 19, 1949.

Residence 500 Bay Street, son of Elizabeth (Lee) and the late David Stanton, and father of Rev. Robert Stanton of St. Mary's Church, North Attleboro. Funeral from the Dolan Funeral Home, Wednesday Feb 02 at 9 a.m.Solemn requiem mass in the Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery.Same page Daniel A. Stanton, husband of Dorothy G. (Lynch) Stanton, died early this morning at his home, 500 Bay Street this city. He was born in Taunton, the son of Elizabeth (Lee) and the late David Stanton. Mr. Stanton, a retired police officer, was a devotee of sports from his youth, and became one of the finest baseball players ever developed in this area. He played professional baseball in the old Colonial and New England League. After his playing days were over, he coached both the Taunton High and St. Mary's High School team for brief periods. Mr. Stanton was appointed to the Taunton police force previous to World War I as patrolman and served faithfully until forced to retire from active duty in 1946 because of failing health. During later years of his term of duty he served as special officer. He was past Exalted Ruler of the Taunton Lodge of Elks. It was during his term of office that the present Elk's home was purchased and dedicated. In addition to his wife, he leaves one son, Rev. Robert Stanton of St. Mary's Church, North Attleboro and one daughter, Mrs. Paul Mulhern of this city. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Stanton, his sister, Miss Bride E, Stanton, Taunton business woman, and Miss Marie J. Stanton who is associated with her sister in business; two brothers, Edward F. Stanton, manager of the Attleboro-North Attleboro exchange of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and William J. Stanton of Boston.
