Vincent Skwarto was born on April 5, 1914 in Taunton. He was appointed to the Taunton Police Department as a reserve officer on May 23, 1939, and fulltime on March 25, 1941. He was promoted to Lieutenant on July 18, 1950 and Captain on September 27, 1955. He retired on November 2, 1975 and died in Raynham on October 9, 1996 in Raynham.

Obituary - Taunton Gazette 10-10-1996 page 11. - Vincent Skwarto, a retired city police captain, died unexpectedly Wednesday Oct 09, 1996 at his sister’s home on Whittenton Street. He was 82. He was the husband of Loretta E. (Gadry) Skwarto. During World War II he served with the US Army in the 3567th Quartermaster Truck Company as a staff sergeant. He saw action in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. Mr. Skwarto served as acting chief before his retirement from the police department at age 61. He started his career as a reserve officer in 1939 and became a permanent member of the force in 1941. After coming home from the service in World War II, he returned to the police department. He became a lieutenant in 1950 and was promoted to captain in 1955. Mr. Skwarto was a native of Taunton and educated in city schools. He was a 1933 graduate of Taunton High School. Mr. Skwarto lived in Taunton most of his life. He also lived in East Taunton and had lived in Raynham for the past 14 years. Mr. Skwarto was a communicant of the Holy Family Church in East Taunton. He was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association. He is survived by three sisters, Natalie Sellger of New York, Stella Williamson of California and Emelia Skwarto of Taunton; and several nieces and nephews.
