Edwin Hubert Evans was born October 11, 1860 in Taunton. He was appointed to the Taunton Police Department in 1884 and served as a patrolman until 1891, at which point became chief. He served as chief until 1895, at which point he was elected Sheriff of Bristol County, a position he held until his death on March 19, 1919 in Taunton,
