Taunton Railroad

Old Mason Machine Works and Taunton Depot, 1954

 

 

This photograph would likely be unrecognized by most city residents becasue of the changes that have taken place. Most of the buildings depicted in this photograph were destroyed in the 1960's and 1970's. Starting in the lower right corner, the roof of Cohannet School can be seen on Cohannet Street. The discontinued portion of High Street running from Cohannet Street to Oak Street borders the right side. This would be the current location of Mill River Plaza. At the top right of the photograph is the Taunton Depot at Tremont Street, the current location of Webster Bank. The upper left shows Oak Street and the old Mason Machine Works. This would be the current GATRA Bus station and the Taunton Housing Authority.
